The 21st century is defined by two dominant forces: the relentless march of digital technology and the urgent global mandate for sustainable development. The United Nations’ 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, with its 17 SDGs, provides a comprehensive framework for addressing humanity’s most pressing challenges, from poverty and inequality to climate change and educational deficits (United Nations, 2015). Simultaneously, the Fourth Industrial Revolution, characterized by a fusion of technologies blurring the lines between the physical, digital, and biological spheres, is reshaping every sector of society (Schwab, 2016).
This paper posits that these two forces are not parallel but deeply interconnected. Digital technologies, when deployed strategically and ethically, can be powerful accelerators for achieving the SDGs. They can democratize access to information, optimize resource use, create new economic opportunities, and foster global collaboration. This article examines this intersection through the specific sub-themes of the BICoDIS conference, providing a scholarly exploration of how digital tools are transforming education, economics, and socio-religious structures.
